ESR8 – Prithvi Laguduvan

Tomographic SAR reconstruction| ZESS| University of Siegen | Germany

Hey, I am Prithvi. I am the ESR 8 candidate of the MENELAOS project. My research focuses on Tomographic SAR Reconstruction using Compressive Sensing.

I come from Bangalore, a city in the South of India. I finished my Bachelor’s in Telecommunication Engineering (2012-2016) in CMRIT, Bangalore. I went on to pursue my master’s in Signals and Systems at TU Delft (2017-2019), Netherlands. For the love of SAR, here I am, at ZESS, working on it!

I moved to Siegen, Germany in September 2020 during the pandemic. Siegen University helped me with most of the official documentation and procedures which made it easier for me while making a move. Finding an accommodation during the lockdown was indeed difficult but nevertheless I found a wonderful place near the Siegen City Center, via online housing websites.

My initial days of PhD work was at ZESS but now I have been working from home. Making the shift to home office was difficult but now, I am getting accustomed to it. My first secondment at Fraunhofer FHR, Bonn, started on April. As of now, the secondments are virtual but I hope it becomes on-site soon.

Most of my life was spent in a city and I often wondered how life would be in a scenic town. I now have the chance to live and work in a place surrounded by mountains. The people of Siegen are friendly and are very pleased when I try to talk to them with my broken German. I still haven’t had the chance to explore the place completely because of the lockdown but I hope to so soon. My initial days of PhD work was at ZESS but now I have been working from home.
